Where can I access application forms for NLDTF funding?

Application forms are only made available once a call for applications has gone out. During calls for applications forms can be downloaded from this website, or they can be obtained by contacting our Information Centre on 08600 65383. This website also indicates when calls for applications have been made and indicates the closing dates. You should also watch the press for adverts on calls for applications or phone our Information Centre to inquire.

Bursaries and study grants

Can the NLDTF fund my studies?

The NLDTF does not fund individuals; it only funds registered non-profit organisations. Therefore we do not grant bursaries to individual learners or students. You are advised to contact the financial assistance department at the educational institution you are attending or wish to attend.

Calls for funding applications

When is the next call for applications?

A new call for applications is usually made in each sector after most of the applications from the previous call for the sector have been processed and adjudicated. The NLDTF makes every effort to issue at least one call per year in each sector, but this cannot be guaranteed.

How will I know if a call for applications has been made?

Please watch the press or check this website regularly to ensure you are aware of new calls for applications for NLDTF funding. You can also contact our Information Centre on 08600 65383. This website also gives you the option of registering to receive e-mails containing important information from the NLB, including news about new calls for funding.

Criteria for funding

What are the requirements for funding?

Currently, the NLDTF only funds non-profit organisations, including registered NPOs, NGOs, section 21 companies, public benefit trusts and foundations, and public entities such as municipalities, schools and colleges. For details of the kinds of organisations that are funded and how to submit your grant application see the following website items:

Where can I find information about criteria for funding in various sectors?

This website outlines the general criteria for funding in each sector. Some details of the criteria can change from one call to the other, so it is important for you to check the criteria every time you submit an application. See What organisations are funded

Payment of grants

We have submitted our grant agreement, all outstanding information and a progress report. When can we expect payment?

The NLDTF processes all information received chronologically, so it benefits you to get information to us as soon as possible. Once documentation has been processed by a grant officer, it is forwarded for a compliance check to the supervisor who will then submit it to the relevant Distributing Agency for approval. Only then is the NLDTF in a position to make payment. You may check the status of your payment by call the Information Centre on 08600 65383.

Progress of application

How can I find out about the progress of my application for funding?

You can contact the Information Centre on 08600 65383.

You sent me a project number. Does this mean my application has been approved?

Every application is given a project number or a reference number once it has been recorded in our system. This is to ensure effective administration and helps to keep track of the application. Once your application has been adjudicated by the Distributing Agency you will receive a clear indication of whether you have received a grant or not.

Sponsoring individuals

My child is participating in an international event. Please can you sponsor the trip.

The NLDTF does not make funds available to individuals. But a project involving international sporting or cultural trips could apply for funding when a call for applications in these fields is made, provided that the project meets all relevant requirements.

Scams

I have been told that I have won a prize in the SA National Lottery but that I must pay an admin fee to claim my prize. Is this true?

The first thing you need to check is whether you recently purchased a ticket for the SA National Lottery. You cannot be a winner if you did not buy a ticket. Secondly, you do not have to pay any fee to claim your prize in the SA National Lottery. This is a gimmick by fraudsters. Do not give them your bank details or any other personal information and do not pay them any fees.

I have received an e-mail saying that I have won million. Is this true - and do you know about this competition?

You can only win a prize in the SA National Lottery if you have bought a ticket. Our lottery does not randomly choose winners. The SA National Lottery conducts a live draw of winning numbers. Only those in possession of a ticket with these winning numbers can claim a prize. There are many scams all around the world that use the lottery system as a cover to commit fraud. Beware of these fraudulent schemes and do not give any personal details to them.

SMS competitions

Are SMS competitions legal?

Many illegal competitions are run as promotional competitions. A promotional competition is used to promote the sale of goods or services and the "reward" for purchasing the service or product is often entry into a draw for a prize. The law says that the purchaser should not pay more than the normal purchase price of the product or service in order to enter the competition. If you need to send an SMS to enter the competition, you should not pay more than the standard cost of an SMS. The competition organisers should not charge premium SMS rates in order for you to enter the competition.
