SPORTING BODIES CAN NOW APPLY FOR LOTTERY FUNDING
The Sport and Recreation category of the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund is in a position to accept new applications for funding from the proceeds of the National Lottery. This follows the call for new applications earlier this year by the Charities, and Arts, Culture and National Heritage categories.

This time round, the Distributing Agency will focus on the following priority areas:

a. Provision of sports equipment for existing sports facilities and/or clubs.
b. Upgrading and/or renovation of existing sports facilities – indoor and outdoor stadiums and grounds.
c. Capacity building in sport i.e. training of managers, coaches, administrators, technical officials.
Applications are called for from national, regional and local sporting organisations, and tertiary institutions that are involved, or who plan to involve themselves, in any of the priority areas above if they can demonstrate the capacity to deliver.

Special attention will be given to applications that will benefit people in rural areas and groups such as women, the youth, people with disabilities, the elderly, etc.

All applicants are urged to ensure that all the relevant information is included with their applications. Due to the large number of applications anticipated, only fully completed applications received by the deadline will be processed and presented for adjudication.

The Members of the Sport and Recreation Distributing Agency would particularly like to encourage applications from the Northern Cape, Northern Province and the North West province, as very few applications were received from these provinces the last time round. Members of the community are urged to inform local sporting organisations that funds are available for projects that meet the requirements laid down for this sector.

Applications forms are available from Monday, 8th April 2002 and must be requested by telephone (012-362 2922), fax (012-362 3899), email (sport@nlb.org.za) or, by writing to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, Central Applications Office, Private Bag X101, Brooklyn Square 0075.

In the 2001/2002 financial year, 3873 applications for funding were received. Of these, 1347 applications were found to meet the advertised criteria and an amount of R222,2m allocated as follows:

Arts, Culture and National Heritage: R 46,6m of the R 99,3m available

Charities: R102,8m of the R154,7m available

Sport and Recreation: R 72,8m of the R 99,3m available

A full list of all beneficiaries and the amounts allocated will be made public in the next weeks.
