New Page 1

It has been brought to the attention of the National Lotteries Board that there is a group calling themselves the South African Lottery Affairs Commission masquerading as the regulatory body that is supposed regulate and coordinate casinos, gambling and wagering in South Africa.

The National Lotteries Board warns there is no such body set up by the Government of South Africa and that the activities of this body are fraudulent.

This body advises randomly chosen people that they have won $2,500,000.00 and requests that winners pay an administration fee of $5,750.00 to claim the winnings.  Players are urged to pay the fee into a bank in Hong Kong or by Money Gram directly to a representative in Johannesburg or Vienna.

The public is advised to beware of this latest scam, which the perpetrators try to legitimise by mentioning South African legislation and using the insignia of the South African Government.

Further, the public should be wary when advised that they have won a prize in a competition that they have not entered and more so when they are required to pay an administration fee required in order to claim winnings.

The National Lotteries Board is investigating the scam and will take necessary action.

If any consumer or player is unsure of the legality of a lottery, they are welcome to contact the National Lotteries Board for confirmation.
