Dear Ms.
van Coller,
HEIDELBERG SPCA NEED
COMMUNITY’S SUPPORT
The article in the Heidelberg/Nigel Heraut of 14 July 2004
has reference.
The writer mentions that the Heidelberg SPCA received funding
form the International Lottery Fund amongst others. No mention is made of
funding received from the South African National Lottery.
We would like to place on record that the Heidelberg SPCA has
received funding from the South African National Lottery to the tune of
R250,000.00 in the last financial year. Half of the amount has already been
paid to them and the balance will follow on receipt of a satisfactory progress
report from them.
The R250,000.00 they received is the full amount that they
applied for and was to be used for the establishment of a clinic, to upgrade the
existing premises and for salaries.
We are concerned that the National Lottery Distribution Trust
Fund (NLDTF) is often not mentioned as a funder by its beneficiaries.
The funds distributed by the NLDTF are funds are raised by
South Africans for South Africans. The lottery-playing public should be
acknowledged and thanked for their contribution through the National Lottery.
Without the lottery-playing public the Heidelberg SPCA would not have received
R250,000.00 to continue with their service to their community.
In the last year alone, animal welfare groups, like the
Heidelberg SPCA, have benefited from over R10 million raised by the National
Lottery.
Since inception of the National Lottery more than R2,2
billion has been allocated to over 5 000 beneficiaries across the country.
The National Lotteries Board would like to express their
gratitude to the all who play the National Lottery. It is through these efforts
that millions of those less fortunate in our communities can be helped.
Yours faithfully
